MOGADISHU ( Halbeeg News) – Somali President, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has called upon religious scholars in the country to help his government in tackling radicalization and violent extremism in the country.
Speaking during the Somali clerics association conference that kicked off in Mogadishu on Sunday, the president urged the clerics take a leading role in the addressing against violent extremism challenges.
“I believe 50 percent of the solution to our problems is related to the role played by our clerics,” the president said adding “the clerics need to provide guidance to those radicalized by the terror groups.”
President Farmajo said it has taken more than eleven years in the fights against armed group in the country and the time has come to take a different approach through spiritual intervention.
“Our religious leaders need to intervene in this senseless war and preach the right doctrine to our people.” The president said.
In his brief speech, the head of state also called upon the business community in the country to pay tax in order to allow the government provides wages for civil servants mainly the security agencies to improve security.
