MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somalia President, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has travelled to Italy after receiving an invitation from the Italian President Sergio Matterella.
While in Italy, the President will hold talks with the leaders of the Italian government on the bilateral relations between the two countries.
Confirming the trip of the president, Villa Somalia communications director, Abdinoor Mohamed said President Framajo will meet the prime minister of Italy Giuseppe Conte and President Sergio Mattarella
“President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo travels to Rome, Italy for a three-day state visit. Somalia and Italy maintained a strong friendship based on mutual interests, trust, and respect. Italy is one of Somalia’s reliable allies,” villa Somalia said in a Twitter post.
In a statement, President Farmajo commended the historic relations between Somalia and Italy.
“We share a historic relationship with Italy. Our governments are working on enhancing the relations between the countries as the Italian government is taking part in the rebuilding of the country,” the president said in the statement.
Mid this year, the governments of Somalia and Italy signed $1.2 million of infrastructure.
Through the Somali Infrastructure Fund (SIF), the two governments agreed to jointly implement the projects in Somalia.
Somalia Infrastructure Fund is a Multi-Partner Fund with the overall goal of supporting Somalia to rebuild institutions, rehabilitate key infrastructure and reinforce economic governance.
The SIF, which is administered by the African Development Bank, aims to contribute to the efforts of Somalia and its development partners to consolidate peace, establish the basic institutions of a functioning state, and to accelerate inclusive and sustainable economic recovery and development.
