MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo Saturday afternoon arrived in Dhusameeb town to attend FG-FMS summit.
The president and his delegation were welcomed at the airport by officials led by Galmudug state leader, Ahmed Abdi and Southwest state leader, Abdiaziz Laftagareen.
Farmajo will be joining leaders of Galmudug, Hirshabelle, Puntland, Jubbaland and Southwest for talks that will discuss how to hold credible and timely elections, security and ways of enhancing ties between Mogadishu and federal member states.
According to Villa Somalia, the president will hold separate talks with regional leaders before FG-FMS meeting kicks off.
FG-FMS meeting is expected to start in the forthcoming days to deliberate issues of election as the country was due to hold parliamentary elections in October while presidential polls will take place in February 2021.
The National Independent Electoral Commission (NIEC) two week ago ruled out any elections this year based on the current electoral law noting the earliest an election can take place is March 2021.
This, the NIEC chairperson Halima Yarey was based on the account the country settles for manual voter registration which should start this month.
The second option, the electoral boss said was to opt for bio-metric voter registration in which case the country will be ready for elections in August 2021.
