NEW YORK (Halbeeg News) – Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo on Monday received the 2019 Concordia Leadership Award at Concordia Summit Held annually alongside United Nations General Assembly in New York City.
Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and the president of Eritrea Isaias Afwerki were named co-recipient of the award for their uniting reforms and integration of Horn of Africa.
Addressing at the summit, the president said the region is quickly recovering from decades of violent conflict which have long contributed to poverty in many ways in the region.
The president stressed that the conflict in the region caused enormous damage to infrastructure and institutions.
He attributed the peace restoration in the region to the leaders of Horn of Africa leaders who came up with tireless endeavor in realizing peace in the region.
“I am honoured To report that a wind of hope and peace is blowing in the Horn of Africa after several decades of insecurity. However, maintaining peace requires trust-building, compromise, concession, understanding, and commitment from all sides involved in the region,” the president said.
He lauded both leaders of Eritrea and Ethiopia for their commitment to take part in hope restoration in the region.
“Trilateral agreement between our three countries focused on economic integration thanks to prime minister Abiy Ahmed and President of Eritrea, Isaias Afwerki,” he said.
