As the country is facing unprecedented escalating political turmoil over the motion against lower house Speaker Mohamed Osman, Somali President, Mohamed Abdullahi on Saturday stepped in to break the stand-off, a move welcomed by thousands of citizens with hope.
Today’s session of the lower house session where the speaker was expected to be impeached was postponed following the interventions of president, state media reports.
Before the crisis took U-turn, millions of Somalis have been eyeing the two parallel sessions expected to be hold by the opposing factions with the effect of their contradiction statements issued in past 24 hours.
A faction headed by the first deputy speaker, Abdiweli Sheikh Mudey with the intension to eject Jawari on Friday evening claimed to have secured the signatures of over 220 lawmakers, paving the way new session to oust the embattled Speaker.
They accused speaker Jawari who has been occupying the office since the beginning of the Post Transitional Federal Government in 2012 of failing to form the Parliamentary Service Commission.
The proponents of the proposition affirmed the legality of the motion against Jawari saying the submission of the motion will take place on Saturday 31st March.
On the hand, dozens of Pro-Jawari lawmakers said the motion failed to meet its procedural methodology saying its submission time elapsed.
The presidency seems to have accepted the call by the upper House urging the President to pressure the two factions to agree on a common ground to address the political stalemate
