MOGADISHU ( Halbeeg News) – Somali President, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has presided over the official opening ceremony of the sixth session of parliament on Wednesday.
While addressing members, the President said his government has made significant security, political and economic progress for the past years in office.
On political stalemate with Jubbaland regional state, the head of state called for unity reiterating that the Federal government is responsible for foreign policy and no state administration is independent to conduct its business.
The President added that his government will exercise its constitutional power to defend the unity and prosperity of the Somali nation.
His comments comes as relations between Mogadishu and Kismayo escalated due to the disputed Jubbaland presidential elections in which Ahmed Mohamed Islam was elected as new regional leader on August.
An inauguration ceremony for Ahmed Islam that was postponed before due to flight restriction to administrative capital, Kismayo is scheduled to take place within this week.
Former leaders of Galmudug and Southwest state as well as some opposition members of parliament are already in Kismayo.
