PRETORIA (Halbeeeg News) – Somali President, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo had a meeting with diaspora community in South Africa on Sunday evening.
The meeting took place in Pretoria shortly after the head of state attended the inauguration ceremony of President Cyril Ramaphosa on Saturday.
Somali leader thanked the diaspora community in the southern African state for maintaining unity and visible positive activities such as a business that contributes to the progressive image of the country back home.
The community representative urged the President and his government via the embassy to address the xenophobic attacks meted against Somali business in South Africa.
Like other foreigners in the country, Somalis face violence from local South Africans that are against migrants in the country.
The President was accompanied by the Foreign and International Cooperation Minister, Ambassador Ahmed Isse Awad and South African ambassador, Jamal Mohamed Barrow.
The plane carrying the president departed for Mogadishu via Dar es Salam, after the conclusion of his three-day visit to South Africa. Villa Somalia spokesman, Abdinur Mohmed Ahmed confirmed via his tweeter on Monday.
“We’re grateful to South African govt for the warm reception. Many thanks to our Somali Community in South Africa for great interaction and hospitality.” He said.
