MOGADISHU ( Halbeeg News) – Somali President, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo launched the national curriculum for the primary and secondary schools on Saturday.
According to the Ministry of Education, more than 300,000 students in 915 public schools countrywide will benefit from the new curriculum.
The head of state said his government will give priority to the improvement of the education sector in the country which was neglected in the past three decades following the civil strife.
“It is basic and constitutional right to provide quality education for our young generation.” The head of state said, adding “it is an obligation on us to prepare them for a brighter future.”
President Farmajo thanked the experts in the education sector who prepared the new curriculum saying their contribution is a big step towards the revival of a unified modern national curriculum in the country.
In an effort to boost quality education in the country, the government of Somalia allocated ten percent of its annual budget towards the sector in 2018/2019 financial year.
Somalia had one of the best learning curricula in the continent before the breakout of the civil war in the early 1990s.
