MINNESOTA (Halbeeg) – Somali President, Mohamed Abdullahi Abdullahi has invited Ahmed Burhan Mohamed who won prestigious Quran recitation contest last month.
The teenager who representing the United States has won a Quran recitation competition in Dubai after besting 103 other contestants from around the world.
According to Star Tribune, Mohamed will be arriving in Mogadishu, the capital city of Somalia this week.
The paper said the Somali President was wishing to meet the Somali American teen who became local celebrity ever since he won the Dubai International Holy Quran Award.
Mohamed, a junior at Ubah Medical Academy charter school in Hopkins, became the first American to win the Award.
He received a perfect score on his proper pronunciation, voice, and style as he recited random verses of the Quran from memory.
The annual contest held in the United Arab Emirates involves reciting passages from the Islamic holy book from memory.
The top award also includes a $68,000 cash prize.
