Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo on Tuesday extended his wishes to the country’s hardworking workers on Labour Day which the world marks today.
In a statement, President Farmajo congratulated the workers saying the workers are dedicated to improving the economy of the country.
“I congratulate all workers across the world particularly Somali labourers on 1st May. I appreciate the dedication and hardworking they showed,” said Mr. Farmajo.
The President noted that his government is committed to improving the living standard of the workers.
“The government is committed to improving the rights of the workers. The government is drafting a proposal bill regulate the employees and the employers and Employing policy,” he explained.
Mr. Farmajo said his government had already endorsed civil servants rights bill which was waiting for approval from the lawmakers.
“The government already passed the bill of civil servants rights. The bill was submitted to the parliament for endorsement. The bill was amended. All those are important for protection and caring of the workers,” he emphasized.
The President said the workers played an important role in improving the economy and peace restoration process.
“We will emphasize the importance of Somali workers for improving the country’s economy, their role in the peace process and government building,” he said.
Last month, the government has launched National audit of civil service.
The exercise which was launched by Prime Minister, Hassan Ali Kheire was aimed at establishing government employee and payroll data.
Though, there is no exact figure of government employees, but the last government budget has shown a total of 5,526 employees.
