MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somalia has welcomed UK’s Conservative Party’s landslide win in the general election which is expected pave the way for Brexit in January to end the uncertainties.
In a Twitter post, Somali president, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo congratulated UK’s prime minister, Boris Johnson for election which was concluded on Friday.
“I congratulate PM @BorisJohnson on @Conservatives election victory. The UK is a valuable ally and friend of Somalia and, as the leader of the the UK,” the president said.
The president expressed hope that Somalia and UK will enhance their bilateral relations.
“We look forward to working with the PM to further strengthen our bilateral ties. Congratulations Prime Minister,” the Twitter post reads in part.
The Conservative Party leader of Boris Johnson has won 365 seats of 600 declared seats.
Boris has promised to “get Brexit done” and take the country out of the European Union (EU) on Jan. 31, 2020 to end the uncertainty that has clouded the economy since the Brexit referendum in 2016.
The Tories were heading for their biggest majority in Parliament since the heyday of Margaret Thatcher in the 1980s, according to exit polls and partial results.
The pound jumped by about 2 percent against the dollar on hopes that Johnson would deliver his promise to “get Brexit done” after years of political deadlock over Britain’s future.
