MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has today congratulated Somali people on Eid-Al-Adha.
Eid-Al-Adha is today celebrated in Somalia and many other Muslims countries across the world.
In a statement, the president wished the country and its people to live in peaceful and prosperous.
The president who commended the act of supporting the needy people urged the public to use the occasion to forgive and help each other.
“These holy days are important days for our religion and culture. Today is the day when our people extend support and comfort one another. perform the pilgrimage to Hajj and pray to God for happiness, prosperity and good for all,” the statement reads in part.
Muslims around the world observe the event, which is a three-day Islamic festival starting from today.
This is the second of two Islamic holidays celebrated worldwide each year.
Eid-Al-Adha is held at the end of the Hajj pilgrimage and sees family and friends gather for feasts, gift-giving, and prayers.
The day is meant to honour the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God’s command.
Hajj is an annual pilgrimage to Mecca and is associated with the life of Islamic prophet Muhamed peace be upon him.
Mecca was the birthplace of Muhamed and is regarded as the holiest city in Islam.
