BEIJING (Halbeeg News) – The implementation of the Belt and Road initiative (BRI) will allow Somalia to accelerate economic growth and realise its full potential in development, Farmajo said Tuesday.
Launched in 2013, the Belt and Road Initiative refers to the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, which seek to serve as a platform for international cooperation and create new drivers for shared development to benefit more countries and peoples globally.
In his Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo said FOCAC played a key role in facilitating the necessary investments and people to people connections to realize mutual benefits.
“In its unwavering desire to sustain stability and nurture economic growth, Somalia is committed to welcoming all forms of investment to develop our vast wealth of untapped resources and reap meaningful results through Win-Win cooperation.” President Farmajo said.
He affirmed that pointed out that the People’s Republic of China had always been a firm partner in major development projects in Somalia.

Mr. Farmajo reiterated his government efforts to uproot corruption.
“Somalia has made notable progress in achieving peace, security, stability, good governance, zero tolerance to corruption and has the potential of becoming a driving force for regional connectivity and prosperity,” he stated.
