The president of federal government of Somalia, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo urged the federal parliament of Somalia to oversee the work of the government and the various branches of the government so as to accelerate service delivery to the public.
“I call the Parliament to conduct regular inspections on the [activities] government and the various branches of government, I urge the Somali people to work closely with the government and the security agencies to ensure the security of the country” said president Farmaajo.
Speaking during joint press conference with the former speaker of the federal parliament Mohamed sheikh Osman Jawari, President Farmajo commended the the achievements of the outgoing speaker during his tenure of Parliamentary leadership.
“Mohamed Osman Jawari is a Somali elder who has been serving this country more than fifty years, the decision he took today is a historic one and he did not table any condition for it, I urge him to continue his efforts to support the government,” said Farmajo.
He called on the Parliament and the executive to speed up their respectively works.
“I call upon the government to double its efforts as there are tasks including improving security and developing of the economy of the nation, I also urge the Parliament to endorse the bills submitted by the cabinet,” he urged.
On his side, the former speaker of Lower House, Mohamed Osman Jawari has called for support of the Federal Government a day after he stepped down from the office.
The outgoing speaker highlighted the need for the government and Somali people to resolve their differences internally.
“This country’s government is a shoot [fragile], it needs support and should be protected from anything that can harm it, We need to forget about personal interests and focus on national interest,” said Jawari.
He pointed out that he was not ready see the disruption of the achievements gained.
“I don’t want the troubles that we passed during the transitional period to be reversed and derail the hardly gained achievements,” he noted.
External Interference
The octogenarian said he had been avoiding the foreigners to interfere the internal issues of the nation.
“Since October 2012, the other thing that we were standing against was foreign interference. We don’t want our differences to be resolved in the capital cities of our neighboring countries,” he warned.
After a month-long political stand-off, Jawari decided to leave office and quell the political squabbles that have shaken the country.
He was occupying the office for the last six years, is expected to give the House a good-bye speech on Wednesday
