Somali President, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has called for an immediate cease fire and end of hostilities between Somaliland and Puntland forces in Tukaraq area of Somalia’s Sool region.
Giving a keynote speech after Friday prayer, the president underlined that the hostilities and tensions in the region can through dialogue and agreement adding that the federal government of Somalia will take every step possible to stop more bloodshed.
“I would like to call the sides fighting in Tukaraq to stop bloodshed. We urged to to an immediate cease fire and stop bloodshed. As a government, we will do our best to end the tensions and hostilities” Farmajo said.
Thirsday’s fighting killed at least 50 people including soldiers and children as 100 others were also injured, according to local residents.
Tension has been building up in the area, as both Somaliland and Puntland forces with battle-wagons were amassed at the area .
On the other hand, president Farmajo urged Somali people to unite and give support to their fellow brothers affected by tropical cyclone in Puntland and Somaliland and the families displaced by the floods of River Shabelle and Jubba.
He praised the role of Somalia partners and international aid agencies to deliver emergency support to the affected people during flooding and tropical cyclone that hit many parts of the country.
