KAMPALA (Halbeeg News) – Somali president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has held talks with Ugandan counterpart, Yoweri Museveni hours after he landed in Kampala for the sixth inauguration ceremony of Museveni.
In a twitter post, Villa Somalia said the two presidents discussed the bilateral relations of countries.
“H.E @M_Farmaajo holds talks with H.E @KagutaMuseveni & congratulates him ahead of #M7SwearsIn2021 inauguration to solidify leadership’s commitment to Somalia and Uganda ties. Our nations have a lot in common & our two peoples have for years enjoyed stronger socio-economic and security ties,” the tweet reads.
President Farmaajo arrived in Uganda on Tuesday to attend the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect and National Resistance Movement Chairperson Yoweri Museveni.
He was welcomed by State Minister for Foreign Affairs Henry Okello Oryem at Entebbe Airport.
Uganda was the first to deploy troops under AMISOM into Somalia in March 2007.
The East African country has provided all four AMISOM Force Commanders with the recent outgoing being w Lt. Gen. Andrew Gutti was replaced by Lt. Gen. Silas Ntigurirwa from Burundi.
The Ugandan contingent remains the largest contingent in AMISOM with 6,223 troops based in Sector 1 which comprises of Banadir (Mogadishu), Middle and Lower Shabelle regions.
Uganda has deployed 12 battle groups into the Mission area.
