MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Two suspected al-Shabaab recruits have been arrested following security operations in central Somalia, police official confirmed.
Speaking to media, Captain Abdi Yare, Galmudug Police inspection commissioner said Somali forces succeeded to apprehend the suspects from northern Somalia.
The two who were identified as Jaabir Hassan Dirie and Yusuf Abdirisak were said to have travelled from Hargeisa town of the breakaway Somaliland.
“These boys were recruited from Hargeisa and were heading to a militant training camp in Hiiraan region,” Captain Yare. “We have received their information before hand and their final destination of travel.”
The police said the suspects were travelling to Luuq-Jeelow, an al-Shabaab-controlled village in Hiiraan region.
According to the commissioner, the two are expected to appear in court in the forthcoming days.
The arrest comes amid enhanced security operations across southern and central Somalia.
On Tuesday, Somali military that they killed more than 130 al-Shabaab fighters in three-week long security operations which took place in Middle Shabelle region.
Somali military backed by troops from African Union Mission in Somalia Amisom) had successfully liberated many towns including the capital.
In 2011, al-Shabaab vacated the bases in Mogadishu after fierce fighting with Somali military backed by AU troops.
