MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – The Leaders of the federal government and its member states will today attend latest round of consultative electoral talks barely a month after Somali capital witnessed two days of violence following political dispute between Somali government and the opposition leaders.
All five regional leaders including Puntland, Galmudug, Jubbaland, Southwest and Hirshabelle along with the mayor of Somali capital will convene at Aden Abdulle International Airport complex in Mogadishu.
The first leg of the meeting which is an “ice-breaking session” will be chaired by prime minister Mohamed Hussein Roble, according to Spokesperson of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mohamed Ibrahim Moalimuu.
“The conference will continue; this is just the opening of the talks. We are hoping and praying that the (regional) Presidents who were absent today will be able to join us tomorrow,” Moalimuu said.
Last week, the officer of the PM has confirmed that they are fully prepared for the National Consultative Conference on Elections, expressing optimistic that it will commence smoothly and ends satisfactorily so that the country goes to transparent, free and fair elections.
The international community has repeatedly urged Somalia’s federal and state leaders to set aside their personal agendas and meet “without preconditions” to solve Somalia’s constitutional crisis.
President Farmajo’s four-year term expired on February 8 without parliamentary or presidential elections.
