MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali prime minister, Mohamed Hussein Roble has directed the security agencies not to block outgoing lawmakers from vising to their constituencies days after reports claimed that number MPs were targeted at Mogadishu Airport.
PM Roble has warned the security officials against barring the politicians from travelling to their areas ahead of the parliamentary elections.
Unspecified number of politicians had lodged complaints at the office of the premier, according to Roble.
“I’ll no longer tolerate this…if I hear it, I’ll take appropriate action,” the prime minister said.
The prime minister has called for respect of freedom of movements by citizens.
“People can travel to their constituencies like Garbaharey, to Kismayo and back to Mogadishu,” PM Roble.
Unconfirmed reports have recently claimed that the government forces stopped opposition lawmakers travelling from Somali capital.
The directive by the premier comes days to the Federal Member State parliaments elect the country’s Senators.
The elections of the Upper House will run between July 25 and July 28 and the results will be announced on August 1.
The elections of Lower House members will be held from September 12 to October 2. Each MP will be elected by 101 delegates.
275 elected MPs will be sworn in on October 7. The country’s presidential election is also expected to take place on October 10.
