MOGADISHU ( Halbeeg News) – Somali Prime Minister Hassan Ali Kheire on Saturday met with European Union new ambassador, Nicolas Berlanga Martinez in Mogadishu.
In a statement, the office of the prime minister said the new ambassador was received at the PM office in Villa Somalia.
The premier and ambassador Martinez discussed broad range issues affecting both sides.
Among the relations between the EU and Somalia and accelerating the implementation of EU projects in the country.
For his part, the ambassador appreciates d Somali government for welcoming him in the country.
Meanwhile, in a video clip posted on Twitter handle EU, ambassador Martinez pledged that he will cooperate with Somalia’s federal and regional states.
He said that he will give his priorities to youth, women empowerment and other parts of the civil society.
“The European Union is ready to work with the authorities, women, youth, the media, clerics, traditional elders and other parts. These will include things I will give my priorities in the coming years,” said the ambassador.
EU is one of Somalia’s key development partners, providing comprehensive support to the country in different areas such as stabilisation, state building, security, essential services and job creation.
The bloc supports the country in achieving its development goals with €286 million for the period 2014-2020.
It reflects the priorities identified by the Somali Compact: state-building and peace-building (€100 million); food security and building resilience (€86 million); education (€60 million); measure in favour of civil society (€14 million); and support measures (€26 million).
