Mogadishu (Halbeeg News) – Federal government of Somalia Prime Minister Hamza Ambdi Barre has said there is need for the removal of large road blocks in Mogadishu’s neighborhoods to pave the way for reconstruction and improve urban mobility.
The Prime minister took issue with the use of roadblocks and other obstructions placed at intersections by security forces conducting vehicle and pedestrian checks, and proposed adoption of more practical measures to maintain security.
“It is time for the large roadblocks to be removed from Mogadishu. Security has significantly improved, and our people should feel the progress. The roadblocks must be replaced with better alternatives, such as barriers and equipment that do not tarnish the city’s appearance,” the Prime Minister said.
Barre further called upon Mogadishu residents to cooperate by allowing access to blocked roads, facilitating the reconstruction of streets using interlocking bricks, as has been done in certain parts of the city.
Currently, movement across Mogadishu’s main roads is heavily restricted, with most internal streets blocked by large rocks and other barriers for security purposes consequently concentrating traffic flow to a few major intersections, creating challenges for residents and commuters.
The Prime Minister’s call reflects growing efforts to balance security needs with urban development and the restoration of Mogadishu’s infrastructure.
