Addis Ababa (Halbeeg) – Somalia and its neighbouring Ethiopia have agreed to spearhead initiatives to establish a strong market for the horn of African countries, Ethiopian PM said.
The prime minister of Ethiopia, Dr. Abiy Ahmed who visited Somalia late last week had held lengthy talks with President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and Prime Minister Hassan Ali Kheire in Mogadishu.
Speaking to the state own Media, Fana Broadcasting Cooperation, Dr. Ahmed said the two countries will form the market that will help both sides.
“We discussed that Horn of African countries can become a strong market if united like Dubai, Europe or the United States,” Dr. Ahmed said.
The Ethiopian PM said the main objective of the meeting was to end the history of war, violence between the two nations.
“We need to forget the past, for how long we will keep on recalling our the worst part of our history, let us what happened in the past and focus on the present,” he noted.
PM Abiy Ahmed urged the people of both countries to turn over new leaf and cooperate on the way to prosperity.
“We explored ways of bringing our brotherly nations to integration and unity rather than separating our people,” he said.
He pointed out that the countries have agreed to a full economic integration forthwith.
“Our trade cooperation should not be limited to Somalia renting its ports to Ethiopia and Ethiopia exporting coffee to Somalia rather we should bring together our disintegrated resources and create a region with a bigger population, natural resources, and a huge market,” he said.
