MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Over 300 Somali soldiers have completed military training course in Turkish training camp in Mogadishu.
In graduation ceremony attended by Somali government and Turkish officials, new batch of specially-trained Danab (lightening) forces concluded their training at the Turkish-built facility.
The 330-unit known has been named as Galeyr (Eagle) and are the first Danab forces to graduate from the Turk-Som base.
Among officials attended the ceremony are Somali Prime Minister Hassan Ali and the government officials.
Turkish embassy in Mogadishu said Turkish government is dedicated to continue its supports to capacity building efforts of Somalia in all fields.
“Great pleasure to participate in Somalia 1st Infantry Battalion Graduation Ceremony at TURKSOM Training Center with the valuable participation of PM Khaire HassanAKhaire. We witnessed an impressive parade performed by new battalion of SNA trained by Turkey,” the embassy said.
The embassy also confirmed that Somalia second Infantry Batallion has started commando training at Turkish Commando School and Training Center in Mogadishu.
Somalia and Turkey enjoy very close strong diplomatic, economic and defense relations since the high profile visit of the Prime Minister who is the current President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on August 2011.
Turkey operates a military training base in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu that is among its largest overseas military facilities.
It has the capacity to train more than 1,500 troops at a time, according to the Somali government.
The Turkish Embassy in Mogadishu is the largest Turkish embassy in the world.
