MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – At least 11,500 Somalis are set to travel to Mecca in Saudi Arabia for the annual religious pilgrimage (hajj), Committee for Hajj Affairs confirmed.
In a statement, a special commission appointed to manage hajj travels has announced the number of Somali Nationals allocated to attend this year’s pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.
Each country has a quota of pilgrims who are allowed to travel to Mecca depending on the size of their Muslim populations.
According to the statement, the committee set expenses for the trip and other services.
A regular package should cost no more than $3,600, and $5,000 for VIP packages.
Commission also announced airlines and companies that won bids to ferry and serve Hajj pilgrims.
The companies include Daalo Airlines, Jubba Airways, Freedom Airways, Arafat, Jowhar, Rihla-Mubaraka, Ocean, African Express, Air Djibouti, Dalmar Treval, Hogal Treval, Ridwan Air and several others.
Muslims who are in good health and are able to afford it are required to make the pilgrimage once in a lifetime to perform religious ceremonies there.
