MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – The Council of Union of Presidential Candidates have expressed concern over holding free and fair elections in the horn of Africa nation.
Following a meeting between the opposition leaders in Somali capital, Mogadishu, the CPC issued statement demanding changes which could culminate into free and possible parliamentary and presidential election in the country.
The candidates based their concern on dispute between Somaliland election committee, and apparent lack of progress on Gedo and Hiiraan situations, and slow preparations for the Upper House elections.
“The Council is deeply concerned that free and fair elections will take place on time in the country, based on clear indications of the major challenges facing the country’s elections”, said the opposition presidential candidates in a statement.
Opposition stated that unless the above challenges were addressed immediately, it could delay the conduct of free and fair elections.
The leaders urged the government and the leaders to quickly address these challenges immediately to prevent further delay to the implementation of the electoral process.
