MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somalia marked 14th October as a National Day of Mourning ahead of the first anniversary of the deadliest bombing in Somalia’s history.
The government is carrying out plans to hold a nationwide memorial event to commemorate those killed in the tragedy.
In its weekly meeting, Somali cabinet yesterday approved the 14th October to be National Days to remember the victims of last year’s Mogadishu bombing.
According to reliable sources, next Sunday, Somali will hold event and moment of silence meant to observe to the correspond with the attack.
According to the Somali government records, over 500 people mostly civilians perished when a lorry loaded with explosives went off at Zobe junction, one the busiest streets in Mogadishu.
The magnitude of the blast led to the destruction of hotels, houses, offices and many other business premises.
One year down the line, no group has taken the responsibility for the attack.
