MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) has suspended logistic contracts awarded to a private company owned by Somali businessman.
In a Twitter post, the country’s spy agency said it halted multimillion contracts signed by the former minister for Internal Security.
According to reliable sources who spoke to Halbeeg News, the contracts were inked in 2016.
The company has been providing logistic services to NISA and Somali police force.
The documents of the agreements were submitted to the office of the Auditor General, pending investigations over graft.
The suspension coincides with the verdict of Benadir regional court which passed out sentences against officials for corruption.
Abdishakur Aden Mohamud, coordinator of a development project funded by the Islamic Dev. Bank and managed by the ministry of finance has been sentenced to 3 years in prison for graft.
The court also condemned the head of customs at Mogadishu port Ahmed Abdullahi Samow and 4 other port workers including a police officer to 3 years in prison for corruption.
A businessman is sentenced to 2 years prison and $8,200 fine.
During the ruling, the court acquitted two defendants.
