MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somalia’s National Security and Intelligence Agency (NISA) has confirmed the death of two Al-Shabaab leaders who were killed in new attacks in the south of the country.
A statement posted on NISA’s X handle (formerly Twitter) confirmed that the international partners took part in the operation against al-Shabaab.
The agency also confirmed that the government forces at least seven killed in the Mudug region of central Somalia.
“The National Intelligence and Security Agency @HSNQ_NISA, with the support of the international community, has killed two of the senior Al-Shabaab commanders and seven other members after various operations carried out in the two regions of Lower Shabelle and Mudug,” NISA said.
The development comes less than two weeks after the government claimed to have killed at least 80 al-Shabaab fighters in military operations by the Somali National Army in the Mudug region.
The Somali government backed by troops from the African Union Transition Mission (formerly Amisom has been fighting al-Shabaab fighters for more than two decades in central and southern Somalia.
The allied forces succeeded in liberating major towns including Mogadishu following fierce fighting with al-Shabaab fighters.
