DJIBOUTI ( HALBEEG NEWS) – Somalia’s new ambassador to the Republic of Djibouti Salad Ali Jelle presented his diplomatic credentials.
President Ismaeli Omar Gelle received the credentials and a letter from his counterpart through the new ambassador as per the diplomatic norms.
Senior officials from Djibouti and diplomatic corps from Somalia were present during the presentation held at the statehouse.
Former Deputy Minister of Defense and Presidential candidate Salad Ali Jelle was appointed by President Farmajo as a new envoy to the brotherly state two months ago as a new foreign policy move to reshape international relations and diplomacy.
The presentation comes a day after six IGAD members concluded their 38 head of state and government summit in their headquarters in the boat-shaped tiny strategic state.
Somalia and Djibouti share historic diplomatic ties strengthened by ethnic relations and Mogadishu rigorous role in Djibouti struggle for independence against French colonialism
Djibouti is also key in Somalia’s state-building process following the collapse in the early 1990s.
President Ismael Omar Gelle helped organized the Somali peace conference in 2000 which resulted in the establishment of a transitional government led by President Abdikassim Salad Hassan.
In December 2011 Djiboutian troops also arrived in Somalia as part of African Union peacekeeping troops.
Based in the Hiraan region Djiboutian troops or sector four have been very significant in their fight against armed group al Shabaab and other peacebuilding initiates within the community.
