WANLAWEYN( Halbeeg)- Seven people died and scores hospitalized following Diarrhea outbreak in Wanlweyn district of Lower Shabelle region, officials confirm.
Deputy district commissioner in charge of finance, Mohamed Abdulahi Omar confirmed to the media that 7 people died in and around the district the last 48 hours following the outbreak of the disease.
Omar attributes the outbreak of the disease to the effects of the recent floods of river Shabelle in the region.
“Seven people died the last 48 hours and many others were hospitalized, the causes of the outbreak are due to the floods of Shabelle and now the situation of the people is becoming worse” said Omar.
The deputy DC stated that their call to South West administration and humanitarian agencies for immediate response to contain the situation has not materialized.
“We informed Southwest state the situation on the ground, the cabinet ministers have discussed the issues as one of their agendas during the weekly meeting but no emergency support was sent to the district so far” he added.
He added “ the hospitals in the area have no enough medicine therefore if immediate action is not taken now, the situation might become worse and finally overstretch the little resources in place”
Finally, he called the humanitarian agencies and the ministry of Health of federal government to deliver an emergency support to the affect people and contain the spread of the outbreak to new areas.
