MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Mohamud Hassan Mohamed (Awil Matan) has been appointed as the governor of Nugaal region.
In a statement on Saturday, President Saed Abdullahi Deni has directed the new governor to assume office with immediate effect.
“Following consultations with the state Minister of Interior and the Puntland Vice president, the president has decided to appoint Mohamud Hassan Mohamed (Awil Matan) as the governor of Nugaal region,” the statement reads in part.
Deni also formed a three-member committee to promote and advise on security in Garowe town.
The president directed the commission to assess and prepare report on security arrangements, the advancement of public safety plans and how to tackle drug abuse.
The appointment of the commission less than a week after two people including female civilians were in Garowe town, a move which drawn public uproar.
