Mogadishu, (Halbeeg News) – Newly appointed Banaadir Region Governor who also doubles up as the Mayor of Mogadishu Mohamed Ahmed Amir has proposed that Mogadishu residents should elect their leaders as per the constitution.
Speaking during the handover ceremony where he officially took office, Mayor Amir emphasized the constitutional right of Mogadishu leaders should not be appointed but elected through a democratic process by the residents.
“The people of Mogadishu have a constitutional right to choose their representatives. I hope to be the last mayor to be appointed. We must prepare for one-person, one-vote elections. It is time for the people to lead the country’s transformation,” Amir stated.
Mayor Amir pledged to prioritize people centered projects promising to; improving street lighting across the city, enhance sanitation and enhance cleanliness and repairing damaged roads to ease transportation.
He also vowed to complete unfinished projects initiated by his predecessor, Yusuf Madale, to ensure continuity and progress.
The new mayor faces high expectations from Mogadishu residents, who provide the bulk of government tax revenue.
