KHARTOUM (Halbeeg News) – An Ethiopian delegation led by newly appointed Minister for Foreign Affairs, Gedu Andargachew, has arrived in Khartoum on Sunday night.
Upon arrival, the delegation was received at the airport by Ilham Ibrahim Shantir, Acting Minister for Foreign Affairs of Sudan.
The visit to Sudan is marked as the first ever visit abroad for Gedu after being appointed as Minister for Foreign Affairs
Gedu Andargachew later, held talks with Lt. General Abdul Fattah Al-Burhan, Chairman of the Transitional Military Council today.
According to Ethiopian national news agency FANA, Gedu reaffirmed Ethiopia’s firm commitment to support the people of Sudan based on the principles of non-interference and respect for sovereignty.
He also reiterated that Ethiopia as a chair of IGAD will exert all efforts to work closely with the AU and the international community at large to support a peaceful and inclusive transition process in Sudan.
Lt. General Abdul Fattah Al Burhan, on his part, appreciated the support given by Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed and the warm welcome extended to the delegation of the TMC on its visit to Ethiopia last month.
He also mentioned that Ethiopia and its people are the closest to Sudan and the strong and historical relations between the two sisterly countries will continue regardless of changes in government.
