AMSTERDAM (Halbeeg News) – The government of Netherlands has officially recognized Somalia’s passport for the first time since the country plunged into civil war in the 1990s.
The Somali government has been struggling to convince the world countries to accept Somali passport for visa and as a valid travel document.
In a Facebook post, Somali ambassador to EU and Belgium said the European country will accept diplomatically and service passport of the horn of African nation.
“The government of the Netherlands has recognized the diplomatic and service passports of Somalia from 15th May 2019. The approved passports should be those issued from 2014,” reads the post
The development comes months after Belgium announced that they officially recognized the Somali passport.
In a Twitter post, Belgium embassy in Nairobi announced that the European country will accept diplomatically and service passport of the horn of African nation.
Last August, The Norwegian Embassy in Nairobi said diplomatic, service and ordinary passports issued by Immigration and Naturalization Directorate of Somalia had been recognized.
The Somali government has replaced the country’s old green with the new Somali e-passport.
The new electronic passport is compliant with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards.
