MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – At least 279 al-Shabaab fighters have been killed and more others wounded after Somali forces intensified operations against Al-Shabaab fighters in the last once month.
According to the state-owned media quoting military officials, during the operations, Somali forces destroyed 20 hideouts and four vehicles laden with explosives in Hiraan, Middle Shabelle, Lower Shabelle, Lower Juba, and Mudug regions.
The forces also liberated five towns and 16 villages following fighting with al-Shabaab fighters.
The latest operations by Somali military killed 10 al-Shabaab fighters and several other wounded in southern Somalia.
During the clashes which took place late last week in Berhani, Dharkay, Yaq-anole and Sariraha villages, the forces also destroyed the group’s bases.
Somali military said Jubbaland state forces backed by SNA detonated six landmines, which were planted along the road by al-Shabaab.
The officials said the government forces have pushed al-Shabab out of many of their areas which are all on the outskirts of Kismayo.
