High Level Security conference has officially kicked off in Mogadishu amid tight security in the capital.
The conference aims to review the progress made by federal and state governments and Benadir region and coordinated approach towards National Security Architecture as well as fight against Al-shabaab.
Leaders of South West, Puntland, Galmudug, Hirshabelle, Jubbaland and Benadir region are attending the conference.
Meanwhile Somali president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo held preliminary meeting with the regional leaders after he hosted a dinner banquet in the leaders’ honour at the presidential palace.
In 2017, Somalia adopted National Security Architecture which was intended to focus on several areas including number of security forces civilian oversight and role of the executive over the armed forces.
On a similar conference held in Mogadsishu late last year, the leaders agreed to the development of a plan for the process of the transition by December 31, 2017, “with a view of completing a draft transition plan, before a Joint Review of AMISOM in 2018”.
