The country’s electoral body, National Independent Electoral Commission (NIEC) on Monday awarded certificates of registration to the five political parties in a ceremony held at body’s office in Mogadishu.
Mohamed Moalim, the chairman of national solutions party who spoke on behalf of other parties expressed gratitude to the national independent electoral commission for their commitment and facilitation of their registration.
He said that the registration of political parties in the country will mark the end of the clan system, 4.5.
“ Speaking on behalf of the parties that got their certificates, I would like to thank the national electoral commission, the Somali people have seen the political parties system in 1960s and I hope this will be the end of 4.5” said Moalim.
Finally, the chairman of National Independent Electoral Commission, Halima Ismail said that Somali people have now confidence that 2020 the country will hold elections through political parties.
Since the electoral body has opened it is office in Mogadishu December 2017, the body has registered 15 political parties.
The system of political parties guarantees participation of every individual who subscribes to a political party.
