Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) has this week pledged support for Galkayo South Hospital in central Somalia region, Mudug.
Officials from the agency who toured the hospital have held meeting with the administration of the facility.
The sides focused on the challenges facing hospital including medical shortages and financial crisis which engulfed the facility.
Speaking at the meeting, Gautam Chatterjee, MSF’s country representative for Somalia and Somaliland has expressed his agency’s commitment to help the hospital.
“We expressed Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) intention to provide humanitarian medical assistance to the population of South Galkayo in Somalia’s Mudug region,” he said.
The agency pledged to closely work with a local NGO, Mudug Development Organisation which runs the hospital.
“We will support the hospital specifically the maternity and emergency room,” he noted.
The official said Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) plans yo carry out mobile clinic in three sites in the district.
“Outside of the hospital, we will work with the Ministry of Health….. We are planning to start these activities as of June. We take this opportunity to reiterate the need for authorities and communities to support our work,” he stated.
