Mohamud Abdullahi Siraji has been elected as new lawmaker for Somalia’s lower house in Interim capital of Jubbaland, Kismayo.
He emerged victorious in the poll after he garnered 50 votes against his other competitor who got one vote.
The chairman of National Independent Electoral commission, Halima Ismail announced the final result of the election.
The seat became vacant after his slain brother, Abbas Abdullahi Siraji who was elected late 2016, was killed in Mogadishu just three months after he resumed office.
Siraji was killed when the bodyguards of the country’s Auditor Ganeral opened fire on his car.
Siraji, 31 years old then, was Somalia’s youngest minister in the cabinet.
It was reported the bodyguards mistook the minister’s vehicle for suicide car bomb
