MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Several major roads in Somali capital were today closed and hundreds of police officers ahead the resumption of parliament meeting in Mogadishu.
The paramilitary unit, Haram’ad has been stationed at Debka junction through to Daljir Dahsoon monument blocking entry to parliament buildings and Villa Somalia.
It is not yet clear the motive of closure of the roads but sources said the move might have intended to prevent violence.
Meanwhile, Somali parliament is today expected to discuss motion on national elections.
The session of the parliament comes days after Somali government announced the collapse of the talks between the leaders of the federal government and its member states in Mogadishu.
Somali partners have pressing Somali leaders to resolve their differences over elections.
In a statement on Sunday, UN, AU, EU and IGAD expressed serious concern that the political stalemate is impacting negatively on peace, security, stability, and prosperity in Somalia and beyond.
The statement underscored that 17September agreement remains most viable path towards the holding of elections in the shortest delay possible.
The organizations warned against any parallel process saying they will not support partial elections and new initiatives leading to any extension of prior mandates.
