MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) -Mogadishu prison commissioner along with 26 other officials were arrested following conclusion of Investigations on jail clash.
Somali minister for Justice, Hassan Hussein said the enquiry team confirmed the weapons were hidden in items delivered to the prisoners in two different days.
“An inquiry committee into the central [Mogadishu] prison attack found that on Aug. 8, pistols, ammunition, and hand grenades were smuggled into the prison secretly to launch the attack,” said radio Mogadishu. “The weapons were hidden inside a meat and a sack of orange delivered to the Al-Shabaab inmates on Aug 8 & 10.”
Two days ago, Col. Adan Hussein Kulmiye was suspended by Somali custodial corps chief, Mahad Abdirahman Adan.
Dahir Abdulle Raghe was appointed an acting successor to take his place.
Last week, at least 19 people including prison guards were killed and scores wounded in a shoot-out inside the prison.
According to the officials, the clashes erupted after prisoners snatched guns from guards.
During the clash, one of the prisoners managed to escape after killing a soldier and a civilian outside the facility.
