MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – The Mogadishu mini-marathon has been held in the Somali capital on Friday to enhance the public interaction.
More than 1,500 participants took part in the 3.5-kilometre race which started from kilometre4 junction and end at Daljir Dahsoon monument.
Minister for youth and sports, Kadhija Mohamed Diriye, Mogadishu Mayor Engineer Abdirahman Omar Osman and other Somali senior government officials took part in the event.
The occasion is meant to mark the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace which is held on 6th of April every year but due to restricted movement in the city for security purpose on Saturday ahead of Somali parliament meeting the UN proclaimed calendar was rescheduled and organised early.
The winners will be awarded in an colorful ceremony on Saturday night in Mogadishu.
Abdinur Mohamed Garad emerged the winner while Maryam Nuh Muse broke all the cultural stereotypes and scooped the second position.
