MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – At least 30 people were killed and more than 40 others were injured in three suicide car bomb explosions in the Somalia capital Mogadishu on Friday.
Ali Nur, a police officer who spoke to the media said the dead included passengers who were travelling in public vehicles near Sahafi Hotel during the blasts.
The first two blasts occurred in front of Sahafi Hotel, followed by gunfire, occurred at a security checkpoint of the hotel, while third one went off at a place not just far away from the hotel.
The hotel is near the headquarters of the Somali Police Force’s Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
Among those killed in the blasts is Abdifatah Abdirashid , the owner of Sahafi Hotel, who has been running the hotel since 2015 when his father, Abdirashid Mohamed was killed in bomb blast at the same hotel.
European Union (EU) has condemned the heinous attacks which claimed lives of innocent people.
Maja Kocijancic, EU Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs has extended its sincere condolences to the families of the victims and wishes a speedy recovery to the wounded.
“Mutual solidarity and unity is essential to defeat terrorism and construct a brighter future for the population of Somalia. At this critical moment for the country, the EU reaffirms its continued commitment to stand by the Somali people to build a stable Somalia,”
Al-Shabaab Islamist militant group claimed the attacks in a statement posted online, saying it was targeting the government and security services.
