GAROWE (Halbeeg News) – A military court in Somalia’s Puntland state has today executed 18 convicts including members of al-Shabaab and ISIS groups. The executions occurred in three different cities – Galkayo, Garowe, and Bosaso – around 8:00 a.m.
According to the court statement, six convicts were executed in Bossaso for assassinations and explosions in the town.
Al-Shabaab fighter was also executed in Garowe for taking part in raids on Puntland army bases in Suuj and Garmal villages of Puntland state. He was arrested while travelling to Bosaso and subsequently executed.
The court executed six Al-Shabaab militants for assassinations and explosions in Galkaayo.
Puntland military court also executed five soldiers who were found guilty of killing civilians in Puntland state. The sixth soldier was spared death after his family pledged to pay blood money to the victim’s family.
The country’s military court has been carrying out death penalties for years despite pressure to stop from international partners.
Last Month, two government soldiers were executed in Mogadishu for killing civilians.
