NAIROBI (Halbeeg News) – Mandera North MP Maj. Rtd Bashir Abdullahi called for the arrest of a police officer who allegedly shot and killed a 65-year-old woman in Rhamu town.
Speaking to the media, Abdullahi said the investigation of the incident which took place in November took longer than expected.
The police shot Habiba Osman Dugow in her house as they searched for her son, a suspected drug peddler.
The lawmaker urged the prosecutors to conclude the case.
“We are calling for justice. This officer should be prosecuted, and I think the investigation took longer,” said Bashir.
Two days ago, Pentagon Alliance Youth Group President Abdi Nasir Mohammed who spoke to Daily Nation asked the Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji to hasten the investigations.
“We want justice for mama Habiba. We as the youth in Mandera are saddened by the increased extrajudicial killings in northern Kenya; the police ought to protect us,” he said.
The Independent Policing Oversight Authority had earlier said they had concluded their investigations into the shooting, awaiting completion of review before submission to the DPP.
“According to its investigation mandate, the Authority received a complaint from Northern Advocacy Organisation on November 11, 2018, in respect to the death; and investigations into the circumstances leading to the death commenced.
“Witnesses have been interviewed, statements recorded and relevant evidence collected,” a statement by chairperson Anne Makori read.
