NAIROBI (Halbeeg News) – A middle-aged man from Mandera county has succumbed to injuries inflicted by Kenya Military soldiers who allegedly raided a village near Kenya’s border with Somalia.
Dozens of combined forces of military and Anti-terrorism Police Unit raided Dabacity village last week.
The forces injured 22 locals in the raid hours after a military vehicle belonging the forces hit by Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted on the road.
42-year-old, Ibrahim Edin has succumbed to internal injuries at Elwak Referral Hospital in Mandera County.
Reports say late Edin had internal bleeding caused by beatings and torturing.
Meanwhile, two other medical officers who were operating at a dispensary in Dabacity village are now nursing injuries inflicted by clubs.
Last week, Mandera County governor, Ali Roba accused the forces of attacking 22 unarmed civilians and torturing them.The governor condemned the incident saying it may cause mistrust and insecurity in the area.
“This incident is going to recreate a situation of distrust between the public and the security which will mean a situation whereby the public will be not be speaking about dangerous of Al-Shabaab movement which will mean take over this region by Al-Shabaab,” Mr. Roba said.
He called on the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights to probe the incident, saying it was not the first time soldiers are accused of torture and harassment.
