MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – At least six soldiers have been killed and several others sustained injuries after landmine hit a convoy of Lower Shabelle region governor this morning.
Initial reports confirmed that Abdikadir Mohamed Nur, Lower Shabelle governor survived the IED which destroyed one of his vehicles.
The explosion happened in Tehsile village along Afgoye-Wanlaweyn road.
Locals in the area confirmed that among injured soldiers are two commanders of Danab forces.
The injuries were airlifted to Afgoye town where they are undergoing treatment.
Neither Southwest state nor the federal government has commented on the blast.
In a statement posted on its online media, al-Shabaab claimed the responsibility for the attack saying several soldiers were killed in the blast.
