The newly elected Lower House Speaker, Mohamed Mursal Abdirahman was inaugurated in a ceremony held in Mogadishu.
Abdirahman was elected as the speaker of Somali parliament last Month.
The well-orchestrated event which took place at General Kahiye Police Academy was attended by Somali president Mohamed Farmajo, Somali premier Hassan Ali Kheyre, government officials and foreign dignitaries.
The event was also attended by the presidents of Galmudug and Hirshabelle regional states Ahmed Duacale Guelle and Mohamed Abdi Ware.
Abdirahman was sworn in as the eleventh speaker of Somalia’s parliament.
Speaking after the event, the new speaker pledged to boost the parliament’s relations with countries in the region as well global.
“I want to build good relations with every country supporting Somalia, a relationship based on collaboration, cooperation and mutual respect,” said Abdirahman.
Abdirahman who appointed as Defense Minister last year by Prime Minister Hassan Ali Kheire has resigned from the office last month to vie for the speakership.
Speaking at the event, president Farmajo commended the members of the parliament for the political maturity the expressed when they elected the new parliament speaker.
He called on the lawmakers to execute their duties so as to facilitate the endorsement of the important bills submitted by the government.
