Lower House Leadership Appoints 15-member Committee to Preside over the Election of the Speaker

The leadership of House of the People of the Federal Parliament has appointed a committee to oversee the election of the speaker which is expected to take place end of this month.

The names of 15-member committee have been tabled before the Parliament.

The lawmakers will debate the list before voting for the members of the committee takes place.

The committee will organise and preside over the election of the speakership.

The proposed list of the election committee are:

1. Ahmed Ibrahim Daqare
2. Abdifatah Mohamed Ali
3. Abdifatah Qasim Mohamud
4. Abdullahi Mohamed Shahiir
5. Anab Hassan Elmi
6. Deeqa Hassan Hussein
7. Khalif Abdi Omar
8. Mohamed Abdikaafi Mohamed
9. Nuur Lidoow Bayle
10. Sai’d Mohamed Hayd
11. Hassan Ali Mohamed
12. Hiis Hassan Aadan
13. Yahquub Ali Mohamed
14. Zahra Abdulkadir Abdirahman
15. Zaynab Mohamed Aamir

So far four Parliamentarians have declared their candidature for the post vacated by Mohamed Osman Jawari.

The immediate former Speaker, Mohamed Osman Jawari resigned from the office early this month following a month-long political stand-off caused by a motion against him which lodged last month.
