LONDON ( Halbeeg News) – The mayor of London, Sadiq Khan joined Somali community in the UK capital to pay his tribute to slain Mogadishu mayor, Abdirahman Omar Osman on Friday.
Khan described former Mogadishu mayor who also doubled up as the governor of Banadir region as an individual who inspired many and fought terrorist ideology back home.
“Good to join Londoners from across our city to highlight the contribution the Somali community make – and pay tribute to the late Mayor of Mogadishu, Abdirahman Osman, who spent time living our city, inspired many, and fought the terrorist ideology of al-Shabaab for many years.” Sadiq Khan said.
His son Mohamed Abdirahman Omar praised his father on championing women empowerment and progressive politics during his tenure while at the forefront in advocating for a long lasting solution to IDPs challenge in the Somali capital.
“My father empowered women during his tenure and championed progressive politics. He always wanted to change the image of Mogadishu.”
The late mayor famously known as engineer Yarisow succumbed to injuries sustained from a suicide explosive attack in his office on 24th July.
He died in Doha, Qatar while undergoing specialized treatment on 1st August and laid to rest in Mogadishu.
